How to Celebrate International Dog Day

Yes, it's one of our favourite days of the year - when we get to pamper, spoil and generally fuss over our beloved canines!

It is indeed International Dog Day when the UK's pooches have their time to shine. Here are some suggestions as to what you can do to make it extra special for your best pup.

You don't have to do anything out of the ordinary, since all your paws really want is a walk and a cuddle on the couch, but we love the opportunity to celebrate the happiness our pets bring to our lives, and we hope you do too!

  1. Set up a pet play date

We know lots of dog owners do this already, but where you've got a few pups together, why not make a party of it!

Dogs are social creatures and love the opportunity of getting to meet new pooches at the dog park.

Invite a friend or family member for a doggie play date, or meet up with your dog's favourite playmate.

  1. Donate to a rescue charity

There are hundreds of amazing charities that work tirelessly to help out poorly dogs, rescue those in need of shelter, and care for pups that have experienced the worst of circumstances.

If you love dogs but don't have one yourself, or have a pup who is not interested in surprises, why not donate to your local shelter or rescue charity?

It's a great way to make sure they know that their work is valued on International Dog Day.

  1. Those three magic words

You probably tell your doggo how much you love them all the time - but some pups have their own magic phrases that will brighten up their day (walkies time being a favourite in our house!).

Whatever personality your pup has, having a chat with them might seem a little silly. However, it is an excellent way to bond, soothe them, and make sure you take out a little time from your day to remind your furry one how much they mean to you.

  1. Treat time

Just about every dog loves a treat, whether it's a reward for being a good boy, or just a titbit to show you care. Try baking something healthy, or even letting them have a prized chew or treat that you know they love!

You can find lots of cheap, dog tummy-friendly recipes online, or even go for something simple like a piece of chicken or sausage if you're short on time.
