Stripping down a filter this size by hand is a job nobody looks forward to. The automatic PFC range removes it: the sponges are cleaned by a motorised system that you start with a single turn of a dial. As with the manual PFC models, the unit is held continually under pressure by your pond pump, which is what keeps water quality high enough for healthy pond fishkeeping.

To clean, turn the dial so the blue arrow points towards the dirty water outlet. A first ‘beep’ signals the start of the cycle; when the second ‘beep’ sounds, the unit and its sponges are clean. Beyond replacing foams or carrying out a full system clean, no part of the filter needs to be taken apart at all.

A UV light is built into every automatic cleaning PFC filter, holding back algae growth and eliminating micro-organisms in the pond water that can lead to fish diseases.

Filtration

Water passes through the AUTO-PFC-75000 in the following order:

1. Pond water flows into the AUTO-PFC-75000 via your pond pump
2. Initial filtration begins by removing large particles through a mixture of coarse and fine filter foams (mechanical filtration)
3. Water passes through tumbling K2 media reduces harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water with the help of good bacteria (biological filtration)
4. Then the water passes across bio balls that harbour good bacteria across large surface area (biological filtration)
5. Lastly the exiting water is exposed to a 55w UV steriliser capable of reducing harmful bacteria and algae
6. Clean, clear and healthy water exits your AUTO-PFC-75000 and returns to your pond.

The pump supplied with this kit is drawn from the AquaECO series, whose redesigned electronics deliver substantial energy savings, low running noise and long durability without giving up performance. Set against other pond pump brands the wattage draw across the AquaECO range is extremely economical, and that difference accumulates over a season of continuous running.

It is designed to circulate water to a pond filter or waterfall, and its cage is shaped to resist clogging by presenting the maximum possible surface area for water to be drawn in through the guard. An additional inlet is included, allowing hose to be attached so the pump can take water directly from a source such as a pond skimmer.
