Sponge cleaning is the job most pond keepers put off, and a filter left too long is a filter working at half capacity. The automatic PFC range removes the excuse entirely: these pressurised pond filters with built-in UV clarifiers are self-cleaning units, operated by nothing more than the turn of a dial. Like the manual PFC models, they are kept continually pressurised by your pond pump, which helps you maintain the best water quality for healthy pond fishkeeping.

The cleaning cycle is motorised. Turn the dial so the blue arrow points towards the dirty water outlet, listen for the ‘beep’ that signals the start of the process, and when the second ‘beep’ sounds your PFC pond filter unit and sponges are clean. Beyond removing the manual labour, it means nothing needs disassembling at all except when you are replacing foams or carrying out a full system clean.

A built-in UV light is fitted to every automatic cleaning PFC pond filter, helping to prevent algae growth and eliminating micro-organisms in the pond water which can lead to fish diseases.

Filtration

Water passes through the PFC-12000 in the following order:

1. Pond water flows into the PFC-12000 via your pond pump
2. Initial filtration begins by removing large particles through a mixture of coarse and fine filter foams (mechanical filtration)
3. Then the water passes across bio balls that harbour good bacteria across large surface area (biological filtration)
4. Lastly the exiting water is exposed to a 11w UV steriliser capable of reducing harmful bacteria and algae
5. Clean, clear and healthy water exits your PFC-12000 and returns to your pond.
