At 50,000 litres the foams are large, heavy and thoroughly unpleasant to wash by hand, which is the argument for a filter that cleans itself. Our automatic PFC pressurised pond filters with built-in UV clarifiers are efficient self-cleaning units operated by the simple turn of a dial. As with the manual PFC models, they are kept continually pressurised by your pond pump, which helps you maintain the best water quality for healthy pond fishkeeping.

The motorised sponge cleaning system runs the whole cycle. Turn the dial so the blue arrow points in the direction of the dirty water outlet, listen for the ‘beep’ that indicates the start of the cleaning process, and at the second ‘beep’ the PFC pond filter unit and sponges are clean. Beyond removing the manual labour, no part of the unit needs disassembling except when replacing foams or performing a full system clean.

Biological capacity is scaled to match the pond. Alongside bio balls, the unit carries approximately 4 Litres of tumbling K2 media, kept constantly in motion so the bacteria colonising it can work on ammonia and nitrite continuously.

A built-in UV light is fitted to every automatic cleaning PFC pond filter, helping prevent algae growth and eliminating micro-organisms in the pond water which can lead to fish diseases.

Filtration

Water passes through the AUTO-PFC-50000 in the following order:

1. Pond water flows into the AUTO-PFC-50000 via your pond pump
2. Initial filtration begins by removing large particles through a mixture of coarse and fine filter foams (mechanical filtration)
3. Water passes through tumbling K2 media reduces harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water with the help of good bacteria (biological filtration)
4. Then the water passes across bio balls that harbour good bacteria across large surface area (biological filtration)
5. Lastly the exiting water is exposed to a 55w UV steriliser capable of reducing harmful bacteria and algae
6. Clean, clear and healthy water exits your AUTO-PFC-50000 and returns to your pond.
