About the Natural Color Yellow Aquarium Sand 0.4

Under aquarium lighting, yellow at 0.4 - 0.6mm reads as a warm, sunlit bed rather than a novelty colour. It is a genuinely fine grade, so it stays soft under bottom-feeding fish, and the 5kg bag covers a typical tank.

The same high-quality gravel suits vivariums as readily as aquarium fish tanks, and plenty of buyers use it for hobby and craft work or general gardening, where it brightens up plant pots.

Specification

  • 0.4 - 0.6mm (fine sand)
  • Supplied in 5kg bag

Working out how much you need

To reach a Two Inch (2") gravel depth in your fish tank, measure up and follow these three steps:

  1. Multiply tank LENGTH by tank WIDTH in inches. Worked example: 47" Inches x 19" Inches = 893
  2. Divide that figure by 10. Worked example: 893 / 10 = 89.3
  3. Divide by 2.2 to convert to kilogrammes. Worked example: 89.3 / 2.2 = 40.5 KG REQUIRED

Rough guide for a 2" gravel depth

  • 60cm / 2ft TANK = 25 kg
  • 80cm / 2.6ft TANK = 30kg
  • 100cm / 3.3ft TANK = 35 kg
  • 120cm / 4ft TANK = 40 kg

Treat these as approximates - you may well want a deeper or thinner layer of gravel.

Getting fine sand into your fish tank successfully

  1. Rinse the sand until the water runs clear, then add it to the aquarium before filling. Make sure it is completely saturated and very wet beforehand.
  2. Pat the sand down so it is flat and even across the base of your fish tank.
  3. Fill the tank with water, breaking the fall so the sand is not disturbed too much. This is important while the water level is still shallow.
  4. Once the tank is full, remove any small particles which may be floating. Switch on your filter and the tank will clear.
  5. If you have powerheads / wavemakers in your aquarium, make sure these are not pointed directly at the sand.
