About the Natural Color Pink Aquarium Sand 0.4

Pink at 0.4 - 0.6mm is one of the gentler novelty substrates - fine enough to be kind to bottom-feeding fish, and pale enough to make a small tank feel larger than it is. The 5kg bag covers a typical base.

High-quality throughout, it can go into aquarium fish tanks or vivariums, serve as a hobby and craft material, or be used for general gardening - it is ideal for brightening up plant pots.

Specification

  • 0.4 - 0.6mm (fine sand)
  • Supplied in 5kg bag

Working out how much you need

To reach a Two Inch (2") gravel depth in your fish tank, measure up and follow these three steps:

  1. Multiply tank LENGTH by tank WIDTH in inches. Worked example: 47" Inches x 19" Inches = 893
  2. Divide that figure by 10. Worked example: 893 / 10 = 89.3
  3. Divide by 2.2 to convert to kilogrammes. Worked example: 89.3 / 2.2 = 40.5 KG REQUIRED

Rough guide for a 2" gravel depth

  • 60cm / 2ft TANK = 25 kg
  • 80cm / 2.6ft TANK = 30kg
  • 100cm / 3.3ft TANK = 35 kg
  • 120cm / 4ft TANK = 40 kg

Treat these as approximates - you may well want a deeper or thinner layer of gravel.

Getting fine sand into your fish tank successfully

  1. Pour the dry sand into the tank and spread it evenly.
  2. Using your hand to break the fall of the water, add a little water. Take care not to add too much at this stage.
  3. This is the most important stage to adding your sand - mix the sand and water with both hands.
  4. Keep mixing until the sand is completely saturated and very wet, then pat it down so it is flat and even across the base of your fish tank.
  5. You can now fill your tank with water. You must break the fall of water so it does not disturb the sand too much. This is important when the water level is still shallow.
  6. Once your fish tank is full remove any small particles which may be floating. Switch on your filter and the tank will clear.
  7. If you have powerheads / wavemakers in your aquarium, you should ensure these are not pointed directly at the sand.
