Tropical fish do badly in water that swings a few degrees between day and night, and a heater is the cheapest insurance against that. The AH-50 is a fully submersible 50w aquarium heater with an easy-access dial on the top, adjustable anywhere between 16 and 32 degrees, and an indicator light that shows when it is actually drawing power.
Inside, a chrome nickel helical heating coil spreads the heat evenly rather than concentrating it in one spot, which is better for the glass and for long service life. That glass is 2 mm thick, double insulated and shock-resistant, and the unit is equally at home in freshwater and marine aquariums.
