How to stop a puppy from chewing

Is your pooch a little Chewbacca? Meaning they chew everything from your favourite pair of shoes to those new fluffy cushions you’ve just had to replace…AGAIN?
Dogs chew for many reasons but instead of telling them off (which does not help), introduce products to help them learn.

Boredom

If dogs are bored or want attention, they may start gnawing on the leg of your new dining table. Like us, dogs and puppies want to play or have things to do, and if you have taken them on 3 dog walks already you won't want to go again. Introduce chew toys or toys that you can use to play with your pet. Our KONG’s puppy goodie bone is perfect for smaller breeds and means your pup is getting the best of both worlds: a good game and the attention they need.

The Puppy KONG dog toy is another dog owners’ favourite. It helps teach appropriate chewing behaviour and when stuffed with tasty puppy treats, it occupies busy little ones while allowing pet parents the freedom to attend to their unique needs.

Sore gums

Your puppy may also be chewing more because their teeth are growing. It can be painful for your pup and chewing helps soothe sore gums. A soft toy with a squeaker such as KONG Phatz Pig will keep them happy, its unique texture and material will not hurt their sensitive gums whilst chewing.

Health issues

Puppy Chewing Spray

Keep an eye on your pup’s favourite things to chew as this could be a sign of an unbalanced diet. Chewing on unusual things such as stones is a way to compensate for not having enough calcium in their system. To avoid this, make sure you feed your puppy a high quality puppy food diet. This is because at different life stages dogs need different amount of nutrients and vitamins.

If nothing else works, you can also try to deter your puppy from chewing by using a Simple Solution Chew Stopper spray.
